Begbie
Have you guys seen the rumour about Newcastle Jets being bought out by Dundee United? I'd be interested to hear your take. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/30417339 I think they're looking at it from more from a development point of view to benefit Dundee United rather than a city-esque take over. They did make a decent profit last year though, well..relatively decent. It still does not make much sense... the standard of the SPL nowadays compared to even five years ago is bloody appalling (I can say it) and the difference between the SPL Sides (that are not Celtic) and the A-League is getting less and less. You think United would be spending more of its time trying to be more competitive and getting bigger crowds in the SPL than looking into owning part of struggling provincial club in the A-League. (This is club that was only ever a Title Challenger around when I was born.) Also when Rangers took over the Spirit they were a very strong club who would have beaten 70% of the sides in the EPL at the time and played in front of a sold out 55,000 seat Ibrox each week and in the Champions League. Meanwhile the Dundee United Squad of 2014 however would not even be assured of a Championship if they entered the current A-League Season. Yeah, I was about it say it sounds like they're massively overestimating the gap between the two clubs. I highly doubt anything serious will come of this, maybe one of those wanky 'partnerships' like Real Madrid and Tottenham are meant to have

Shahanga
Where do you start with Newcastle? Obviously the off field problems are at the heart of it, with an owner who, if not bankrupt, is certainly worth a fraction of what he once was. Despite what some fans might think the CEO and Chairman resigning together was not good, but surely rather a sign that these 2 well respected football men had lost all hope under Tinkler. The players are now blaming Stubbins? I don't rate Stubbins as a coach, but he wasn't on the field against Brisbane earlier in the year, against us, or against Adelaide. Too cute to just blame him. Poor tactics etc might lose match after match but poor players and poor efforts result in floggings. My prediction: the FFA will have to takeover, otherwise they'll fold. No joy in my heart saying that, but I just can't see them trading out of this mess. Oh and for the record, their old jerseys wasn't a gold colour, it was a pyrite colour. You know, iron sulphide - "fool's gold". Edited January 28, 2015 by Shahanga

As shit as you must be to lose 7-0 and all the answers the players must now answers, Stubbins must go. He has had 4 weeks to get it right after very poor start. Not entirely his fault, but ultimately accountable. No different to JA. 4 weeks and they put out that shit. With his game plan, with his training regime. perthheart
Got a fair few mates in Newy who support their club as well as any football fans I know. Genuinely sad to see them in this state. Hopefully new owners can be sorted out soon or FFA take over. No way will the FFA risk one of the clubs folding especially a regional club that's shown it can get good numbers to games even with the shit they are served up every week. Tesla
Still don't see a problem? Are no changes supposed to occur when the team/club is struggling?Actually some respect needs to be given here, Tinkler backed the manager and is getting rid of the people undermining the manager. The first time I've ever seen a manager legitimately backed, rather than just talk. Unfortunately, I think it's the wrong call as I don't think Stubbins is any good, but I respect that Tinkler has made a decision to keep the coach and is following through with it properly. After all this settles down Stubbins can have no excuses, and it's far better than publicly backing a manager, giving them more time without doing anything else, and then shit results just continuing (eg John Aloisi). You can't have players undermining the manager and causing division amongst the squad, normally it's the manager that goes as that's the easy option but Tinkler has made it clear that players will not be undermining the club or those who run it. It's a strong statement to make and should serve the Jets well going forward. Just as the club has described it, it's a change in culture.Tinkler has stepped in and set out to try fix the club by running it his way. It's pretty much like having a new owner, how is a new owner or the FFA taking over going to be any better?I don't know what everyone who thinks this is a crisis wants? For players to dictate whether the manager stays? For players paid large sums that aren't performing to be kept on? For no changes to occur at a team clearly struggling? As long as the financial situation can be brought under control, and I think it will be since the money seems to be there to payout these contracts being terminated, there is nothing wrong here. The FFA also have no grounds to step in if the financial situation is brought under control as that's the only potential licence breach at this stage. mus-28
Having watched Newcastle, this is a good thing. There was a distinct lack of effort out on the park shown by a lot of players. Looks like the big egos in the changeroom thought they could dictate to the club, good to see them get the arse. Newcastle are reported to have a string of unpaid debts. Ultimately I think that's the real crisis., not their table position. I agree with what Tesla is saying about the manager, you either sack him or back him, and ultimately poor performing players shouldn't be rewarded. However I also think Stubbins is well out of his depth, so am wondering if the backing is to avoid paying him out (though surely the sacked players will have claims, so maybe that argument doesn't hold).
