  1. Problem is that our defence has mostly been bad because we haven't been able to put our preferred on the pitch at the same time. Injuries but not season ending ones, so we can't just bring in replacements. Caceras is a talented young player, Bouzanis will spend 99% of his stay here on the bench anyway (hopefully) and Fitzgerald is a consistently ok player with a better finish than Williams, so it's an upgrade. 100% agree on marquee though. Really hopeful whoever we line up can draw crowds and score goals. We'd have a genuinely unstoppable midfield combined with the best attack in the league if Koren had just lived up to his billing.
  2. Better finisher than Williams, and a familiar face to help Caceras adjust to the new squad quicker. Tidy bit of business this January. Not used to us being so bloody active on the market. Hope Luis Garcia works out for the Mariners though or they are FUCKED.
  3. Sad result, we slip to 4th but we're still above the other blokes. Still though, we're 3 points from the top spot so lets look to monday-week and the Phoenix. Win that and we'll be right on track.
  4. If we end this season with 5 clean sheets that'll be a bigger shock than the buy out was.
  5. When Arnie first scouted him before he left for Vegalta Sendai, he said Caceras will follow in the footsteps of Amini and Rogic. The boy has potential. Without Arnie, CCM never were able to continue the amazing record of development that he and McKinna had established in the clubs formative years. I think we have everything necessary though, and it's not too late for him. I'm excited to see where we take him. Edit: Somehow found the bloody article http://www.news.com.au/national/central-coast-mariners-coach-graham-arnold-says-tom-rogic-is-replaceable/story-e6frfkp9-1226556307447
  6. Does anyone remember a game where Clisby doesn't get booked? The bloke uses his studs like a weapon.
  7. Sorenson and Fornaroli have a case, but it's gotta be Novillo. Bloke was on fire.
  8. Yeah but he can't finish. he and Golgol are the exact same type of player - super fast, dangerous on the break, surprising bursts of skill but cannot put the ball into the net for the life of them. That makes him way more useful as a substitute than a starter IMO. Bring them on when the defenders are sucking the big ones and just hope they hit one on target.
  9. Ambient, fringe &experimental electronica is my shit. I notice a lot of you people go for stuff with lyrics. That's cool, I like that too, but most of my stuff is instrumental. Lately I've found this Australian lady called Anomie who makes some top shelf stuff. I'll drop a few tracks I dig from various articles into links here. Predator Drones over Yemen - Anomie Dayvan Cowboy - Boards of Canada I'm God - Clams Casino Minipops 67 - Aphex Twin We're No Here - Mogwai So not all of that is 'chill' per se (We're no here is great pump up music) but this stuff is fucking brilliant. I can put this shit on, sink into my own thoughts, and the hour long public transport trip to AAMI park flies by
  10. I just would like So Happy Together to not be our Run-out song. I didn't have any great suggestions for a replacement but we'll see. Yeah I'd love to see Cosmic Psychos cranking out. If we're down by 2-3 goals they can start playing 'Nice day to go to the pub'.
  11. whoa there don't bring us into this I just think at this point in the season a switch would be bad because we'd be rebuilding from scratch tactically at the business end of the season. As I recall the news was saying CFG gave JVS til January to turn the club around, and he's obviously met that. So he's earned his right to stay for now. I suppose Gombau backed out too or something. Whichever way you swing it, there are probably bigger issues for us to resolve like Koren not being worth his status as marquee and the constant pain train of injuries to our players.
  12. It seems like there would be a lot of players in Europe who would be better candidates to do that kind of thing. If the story pans out I think we're probably betting on him to develop better in Europe than Australia, before deciding if he's Man City or Melb City material and signing him accordingly. Maybe he was about to move to another A-League club and we just wanted to cockblock it
  13. Identity is pretty important because it's a big reason why fans might both choose Melbourne City, and stay with Melbourne City long term. I think our main area of differentiation from the other blokes used to be pretty unclear, but nowadays it's a bit philosophical. If you like, we're in a similar boat to Inter, because we're the internationally minded club, and there's nothing wrong with that at all. We just have to be better at demonstrating that. I reckon the identity question was the club trying to get a good idea of what we see the club as, and to compare it to how they want the club to be seen. Hopefully a first step to solving this identity crisis thing once and for all.
  14. Got to admit I'm not a fan. I think MCT was a late comer and had a strong showing and a vote might have been worth the time. Either way dropping the o in 'Melburnians' looks weird, is it supposed to be like that? It grates on my sense of spelling but if it's right, it's right. Bottom line is though, it is what it is. We will come to love the name if times are good.
