  1. My take is that it's pretty well referenced and gets across many of the problems the VFA faced as a second tier aussie rules competition.
  2. Not for the whole 100 [sic] years of the VFA's existence, more like from the early 1960s to the late 1980s. It ended up being one of the thing which dragged the VFA down. As an aside, during the 1940s there were discussions between the VFA and VFL to reunite, but the VFL didn't want to have automatic relegation, so it didn't happen.
  3. The way the competition is structured, I think that's only a possibility if South make the final. If we beat South Hobart, pretty sure we'd have to travel to the winner of the Queensland/Northern NSW game the week after. My mistake, there's a points system used to decide who gets to host.

  5. I believe the successful applicants will be announced on February 10th. Today the FFV released updated NPL licence documentation.
  6. I thought one of the proposals for the NPL is for to go for a lot longer than the old State Leagues so that Young Players are playing the game for over two thirds of the year. How many games they'll play I think remains an unknown, and dependent on a few factors. The key thing is that they'll be involved for 10 months of the year, even if a lot of that is training, which they'll be expected to do four times a week. What it does do is force players to commit solely to soccer from a very early age. Little time for rest, and no choice of playing a summer sport. But that seems to be the way of things these days.
  7. Submitting an expression of interest is not the same as an application. If you make the effort to get the past knee-jerk conservatism of a lot of VPL fans, you'll see that there are actually some very legitimate concerns being raised. Lousy consultation by the FFV, which comes across as more of a box ticking enterprise than actual consultation. Destruction of the community aspect of clubs that are chosen to be part of the 'elite' system. Creating the situation where blow in parents can more easily take over senior clubs. Bloody expensive. Making elite clubs not much more than development pathways rather than as clubs who want to win championships in their own right, with the added stupidity of A-League teams still hiring mid 30s has beens ahead of younger talent not copping the same flack, nor facing the same restrictions. Draconian financial rules, imposed from an organisation that just lost $800k last financial year and who blamed a reduction in fines as a major cause of that. Now maybe it's not as bad as the anti-NPLV forces make out, but for myself, and I like to think I'm more open minded on these things, I've found it incredibly difficult to support this move, and this is as a supporter of one of the few clubs that could potentially afford to do this. That's not to excuse the system as it exists now, but a re-badged VCL with all the costs and risks falling on clubs is a bit of a joke.
  8. New registrations have been closed for some time on soccer-forum.
  9. I work in a job where I see a hell of a lot of census figures and I have TBH and that no large Dutch or German population has ever popped out at me in Melbourne or in particular in the Outer East of Melbourne. You would also think that there would be Local Soccer clubs in the area that would reflect such a population. Ringwood Wilhelmina?
  10. For all those claiming that Lakeside does not meet A-League requirements, what are you basing this assertion on? Have you actually seen the FFA's list of stadium requirements?
  11. Do you actually believe that FFA dribble? Don't be so gullible. The only reason we can't play there is because the FFA don't want a game there. Also because South have exclusive soccer rights to the venue.
  12. I just had a flick through of the crawford report, i don't think it did go into any detail at all about what population bases could support a football team... There are actually two reports which in my mind seem to be routinely conflated into one in the public sphere - the Crawford Report, which sought to address the governance issues in the game, and the NSL taskforce, which looked at how reform the top flight.
  13. How much are they going to learn in state league 2? There are already provisions in the regulations for an A-League side to be included in the VPL, in the event that they get relegated or wish to field a senior or under 21s team. WTF, talk about special privileges... Yeh, let's just boot clubs down a league and send a ripple effect throughout the state leagues for the sake of a few clubs. Seems like they are just making up the rules as they go. Probably brought in after the farce that was the attempt by South Melbourne and Melbourne Knights to enter the VPL in 2004, which was supported by some VPL clubs, but opposed by others. That attempt was blocked, and they had to wait until 2005 to re-join the competition.

There is no provision as far as I'm aware for it to happen in the state leagues. Whether one was for this move or not, it was conducted exceedingly poorly. While the FFV management must cop most of the blame for that, Heart should not be immune from copping some stick either.
