I've been here since the start mate. I understand the hesitation and reluctance but it's time to put that mentality to bed. It's time to start thinking like winners and expecting success every year. This is the strongest squad we've ever had, with a full quota of visa players all 30 and under and all have had experience in the top leagues in Europe. Our Australian players are some of the best in the league at the moment and many have played in Europe or Asia. We've got a manager who has helped develop and coach some of the biggest names in world football and a list of assistants who are knowledgable, experienced and have been part of successful set ups in the past. We have the best youth and the best facilities in the country. All of this is backed by a group that just won the PL title and have big ambitions and even bigger pockets. If we can't even get stupidly optimistic and excited about that, then what is the point of supporting a club?6 points

Terrific signing. This is the kind of marquee we needed. A real solid defensive player with lots of experience. People asking where is our attacking superstar marquee, he wears number 23.4 points

4 visas under 30 and one just over. All ready to go. Great signing, well done City. Or... Club obviously has no ambition and only exists to be a youth feeder club.........4 points

Signing confirmed. https://www.melbournecityfc.com.au/news/melbourne-city-fc-signs-defender-ritchie-de-laet Marquee, loan for one-season.3 points

I would argue we had the same quality on the bench last season. Major difference this year they will be all Wazza's boys so hopefully there won't be another January exodus. Like a few others I'm reluctant to get too pumped but looking at the squad purely on paper we have the best balanced list yet. Next 35 games will be good to see where we are at.3 points

just because he played does not mean he is any good at all. should barely be a squaddie.2 points

Not the way I read it at all. There were other offers. Nothing really floated his boat, but then he had the chance to have an adventure and come to Melbourne. His wife is chuffed, and he's pleasantly surprised by what a good set up we've got.2 points

To highlight our ridiculous depth, have a look at a few projected XI's. Best XI Birighitti Atkinson De Laet Schenkeveld Jamieson Griffiths Brattan O’Halloran McGree Berenguer Fornaroli 2nd XI Galekovic Pierias La Rocca Delbridge Metcalfe Malik Caceres Najjar Wales Najjarine Vidosic SUBS : Graham Lesiotis Portelli Iannuci Delianov Kis Cavallo every player in the 2nd XI bar maybe metcalfe could easily be slotted in2 points

Too many holes in that squad tbh. Think our back 4 is more much more solid now and i think we are very evenly balanced across the rest of the squad. Im always optimistic at the start of the season on our chances, but have been burnt every time like yourself. Think last season burnt me the most being up there in Newy to witness it. I think we missed a golden opportunity to pinch one last season, but oh well. Actully really keen for the season to start and see where this team can take us2 points

I just don't get it. Vidosic, Caceres and Galekovic are the only ones worth talking about. The rest are completely subpar or too raw to call.1 point

A counterfeit bill looks good too until you try to spend it. Not to rain on the parade but I'm going into the season like I do every season : with cautious optimism. I think we have a great list, on paper. It's all now up to Warren Joyce to make all the cogs work together to achieve the goal of our first ever championship. He also won't have any bullshit excuses if it goes pare shaped such as "I wasnt around when all the signings were made". Our success now squarely rests on his shoulders because as we all know the quality is clearly there. In saying all that, bring on the season!1 point

And some of you plebs wanted a striker. With this defensive line and CDMs, we're going to have to stop Brighitti from falling asleep.1 point

No. I inferred it from the: This card can no longer be changed as the purchase has been fulfilled.1 point

Welcome Ritchie. Not a jaw dropping marquee but high quality under 30 I think will serve us well. I just hope he gets used to the hard pitches and is ready round 1. Well done.1 point

Absolutely stoked. Barring misfortune / injury, he's gonna be great and by God does the squad look good. gotta have faith peeps (tho knowing this forum, I'm just waiting for the pessimistic bullshit / always angry about something posts from some for the next 9 months - ie #yoof, #draintheswamp)1 point

Not sure where RDL will fit in. His natural position seems to be RB but you’d think he will play centrally too. Or be put in midfield. Either way, that is a bloody good XI we’ve built. And genuine competition for places too.1 point

On paper, he is marquee quality for the HAL. Were you expecting a big name? Hype and social media clicks dont win you trophies1 point

2018 Transfers outs & ins for the season don't think I've missed anyone Nick Fitzgerald & Fernando Brandan - Replaced by O'Halloran yet to find out weather that's an improvement but as Brandan didn't play any games last season I think it is ! Marcin Budzinski - Florin Berenguer big improvement signed early enough to gain some fitness Bruce Kamau - Lachlan Wales much of the same player get into good areas lack a little polish Azarni - McGree will have a similar output with goals and assists but not as flashy IMO Jakobsen - De Laet big improvement if Jakobsen continues to have injury problems late in the season Stefan Mauk - replaced by Caceres not sure about this one Bouzanic - Replaced by Griffiths big tick for me Bouzanis - Birighitti not any worse off in my opinion don't know much about him Ruon & many both gone but went mainly unused last season - apart from Mannys goal of the season against Newcastle Great off season in my books Bring on The season !!0 points
