  2. Budzinski: This week has been a positive start Two pre-season matches and an intense training schedule has seen the Pole in the thick of the action in both matches and the former Cracovia man says he wouldn’t have it any other way. “It was my second game this week but I’m feeling good and that’s a positive start,” Budzinski said. “With every day, it’s getting better but I think I still have a long way to go. I hope next week it will be better and this week was a step in the right direction. “We have two weeks to go and for me, the most important thing is to work towards the first game of the season. I feel good and it’s good that I can have more time with the team to work and get to know them better.” The midfielder started in both Tuesday’s intra-club match and Friday’s pre-season friendly with Western Sydney Wanderers, playing multiple roles across the middle third, and says he’s just happy to be out on the field and getting used to Australian football. “I’m just happy that I could play my first game against different opponents,” he said. “Now I know a little more about the team and how they play here, especially against an A-League team, so it’s a new experience for me. “I was expecting the physicality during the match. The coach wanted me to be strong and tough on the pitch but also show my skills. “I was prepared for it in the match, it can be tricky but for me, it’s nothing new because in Poland its similar. Budzinski and City have one last pre-season friendly with Adelaide United behind closed doors at Coopers Stadium before October 6’s season opener against Brisbane Roar at AAMI Park.

  3. All I see is Wazza trying to fix what's broken from last season and that is our defence and a piss weak culture/mentality. He has got some hard nut defenders in, so that's a tick, but fixing the second issue takes time. If players and coaches aren't buying in then they need to go by January. Tbh I don't expect massive success this season, but what I do expect is a solid foundation to be set for the next 4 years. 9 years of rubbish doesn't get fixed in 4 months. As for this first game, all I want to see is a solid and unified defence and some solid fast counter attacks with front line creativity. 0-0 would be encouraging, a 0-1 loss wouldn't mean the end of the world either. Edit 24/9...... Ross changes things a bit. Attacking potential all of a sudden looks much better.

  6. Pretty good signing. Very good scoring record in the Championship in the three years before his move to Villa where he apparently wasn't given enough games.

  8. Arzani: I’m just grateful for any opportunity I get Arzani’s spot kick after 21 minutes on Friday night was enough to separate the sides in Shepparton as City continued to work towards October 6’s season opener with a win over Western Sydney. Despite regulars Bruno Fornaroli, Nick Fitzgerald and Tim Cahill not playing a part in the match, Arzani didn’t look out of place during the contest, winning the penalty to give his side the match-winning goal and says his focus this pre-season has been to impress with every opportunity he gets. “It’s always good to get out there with the boys. I’m really grateful for every game I get to play for the Club and just try to do the best I can whenever I am given a chance to,” Arzani said. “I’ve been training with the squad for a while now. The match intensity was quite high and it was a good hit out for us despite all the circumstances. “I’m looking for a breakthrough season. I want to get as much game time as possible, score goals and help the boys win games. “It’s essential that everyone is ready for Round 1 to set the tone for the rest of the season and we go on from there.” The competition for places in the squad has been intense this pre-season and will continue to be during the season proper but that hasn’t fazed Arzani, with the starlet knowing what he has to do to take his game to the next level. “I think it’s the work I do off the ball that will count,” he said. “It’ll be about making sure I can keep my concertation defensively, making forward runs and playing a role in the side. “I think one of the main things to taking it to the next level is working on your deficiencies and being a bit more all-rounded. “That’s what I’ve been working on this pre-season and working on my defensive side of the game and keeping up with the rest of the boys.” Arzani and City have one more pre-season match against Adelaide United behind closed doors in South Australia before returning to prepare for our season opener on Friday 6 October.

  12. Depending on the characters in the group, the constant pressure to perform and compete for spots in the starting line up will either inspire better performances or demoralise individuals. Unfortunately, as Sydney demonstrated last year, success was based on consistency of team dynamics. I feel what is needed is not fundamentally a focus on individual performance, but team dynamics and consistency. In this lay our potential. Our squad is actually really good (injuries aside), but to be competitive we need a good team, not just good players. I fear Wazza will not get the team dynamics right, and our team will be forever changing week to week. I think it will undo the conditions for the possibility of success for the season. But, as I said, I want to be proved wrong. And, at the moment, it is all pure speculation. I think we are all still riding the lows of last season post FFA, but hoping those wrongs are righted, despite evidence to the contrary pre season.

  17. Fucking oath. Scoring 13 goals in 26 games in all competitions last season was absolutely disgraceful, I was personally embarrassed for him, especially when he headed that ball into the net in the Cup Final. Please call it a day Timmy, before all our memories of you are tarnished.
