  1. 21/09/17 A note to let Forum members know that from now on I will be posting FRG meeting notes on here on behalf of an FRG Member. I will put up the notes from the meeting on 28th August 2017 when I return from a short holiday in about 10 days time.

  2. Can't see it happening. Hellas have their biggest game since last century and releasing their main goal scorer on the eve of their inevitable drubbing will be unlikely. Maybe later but really I think Crowley will be given a crack first or atleast he should be.

  3. My season preview : City certainly haven’t had a sexy off season, signing or performance wise, but they’ve strengthened their side from last season. They’ve addressed their issues at the back, with most of their signings defensive, whilst bringing in a 10, what they lacked in the front half. Whether Budzinski proves to be a success is another thing, but regardless of his pedigree or resume if CFG think he’s worthy of a marquee spot, he’s more likely than not going to be at least decent. They’ve arguably got the best squad depth-wise in the league, batting all the way down to their youth. As a summary from a senior squad perspective: IN Budzinski (MV), Schenkeveld (V), Galekovic, Mauk, Carrusca, La Rocca, Jamieson, Crowley OUT Colazo (MV), Sorensen (V), Rose, Retre, Franjic, Kuzmanovski, Gameiro, Caceres There are however, some valid concerns that outsiders and City fans will have, in particular that they will start the season without their main man in Fornaroli, and for the first few weeks at least are likely to have limited impact from Brandan returning from an ACL injury. There is also the query on the new coach and his style, and whether he can get the best out of what is a talented squad, something JVS and Michael Valkanis clearly couldn’t. The Sydney Cup game a week ago was obviously an abject failure, a tactical gamble that was up-ended before it started by conceding from a free kick. Joyce will need to show a bit more flexibility than that if he is to get the ship moving. At the end of the day, the gaffer was the most important signing Melbourne made over the summer, and only time will tell if it was a good one. IMO City could end up absolutely anywhere, from first to perhaps 7th, but I wouldn’t back against a top 4 finish personally. Similar to last season, if it clicks then look out.

  6. Milos Lujic, no thanks. Would rather start Crowley every game if we don't get an equal replacement for Bruno.

  7. Controversial? He's just making a non emotional assessment of what we've dished up so far. Cruel but fair I reckon ps I'm predicting 8th

  8. Obviously can't say if he will flop before he has played but there is a nagging question in my head about why he has never left the polish league... logically you would think if he was any good he would have been snapped up by another euro club in a higher league years ago

  11. All the other A-League clubs have recruited really well in the off-season, I'm predicting it'll be one of the closest seasons in recent memory (maybe excluding Sydney who will probably run away and dominate again). I'd say the only club we've recruited better than over the off-season is Wellington, and of course there's the big unknown of how quickly the team is going to gel and adapt to Joyce's gameplan. We could genuinely finish anywhere between 1st and 10th, such is the nature of the league.

  14. I have zero intention of buying a membership, our squad looks shit and we've done nothing to generate excitement. Defence has certainly improved but we still look meh. Hope I'm proven wrong.

  15. If he's any good he'll get another one easily, or the school will even give him unpaid leave etc for the two or three months he's away.

  16. Yep, not worth his while. If we offered him 200k of Bruno's salary for a couple month stint it might be enough to persuade him to have a crack. It's essentially a free crack for us, given it would be insurance money.

  17. I have no issue that Slater has that view of the club. To be fair, his sentiment largely echoes the views of this forum. Personally, I don't think the issue is CFG lacking the will to invest, they have always said that they will invest commensurate with their ability to achieve a return on investment (or a break even scenario). The problem is the league itself. As it stands, with all the restrictive measures in place that limit the ability for clubs to produce a true AFC contender, CFG's financial controls limit the available budget for star signings. I reckon that once those restrictions are lifted, as well as other blockers that the FFA have in place which limit additional revenue streams, CFG's will increase its budget for Melbourne and we will then see more known star players come in, as opposed to players who have the potential to be stars, but are relatively unknown.

  18. Yeh clickbait. Just trying to create interest ahead of the season. I'm in the boat that we could be anything this season, but i struggle to see us missing the six. We still have the deepest squad of anyone, and I'm thinking that perhaps we might learn to become a little less predictable without Bruno in the side. In saying that, he's a super star and will be a very welcome addition back in the side, particularly if we continue a labouring approach as seen in the cup game. As i mentioned a week or so ago, if we can;t secure a decent quality visa replacement for Bruno, I'd be more than happy to give Lujic a contract thats worth his while for a few months to give him a shot. I personally think he's very capable.

  19. I figured you'd be on your skates soon, so here it is: Best wishes in your first marathon fortress. You only get one first Mara, enjoy it! ps it's bloody hard to lose weight training for one, you get so hungry.

  20. Are you dieting or fasting? I would seriously recommend intermittent fasting. First week is a bitch, once you're used to it it's much easier and its worked well for me so far.

  23. I have a different spin, besides the obvious time saving factor, running or even better riding down a platform and JUST making it is worth the risk. Whenever I do it and make it my self esteem goes up to a level where I longer want to kill myself. Also, I reckon chicks respect men who run, you risk the humiliation and or injury but if you make it you can look at everyone on the train and think "fuck you all, you wanted me to fall over and rupture a testicle, yet here I am sipping my McCafe late with a plastic bag on my shoes so I can put my feet on the seat". Thats super alpha, pheromones n shit.
