  6. Gamiero on the mend. Hopefully stays injury free Roar forward Corey Gameiro returns to football after three knee reconstructions and 22 months on the sidelineMarco Monteverde, The Courier-MailSeptember 17, 2017 10:01pmCOREY Gameiro kept having to remind himself it “wasn’t a World Cup”, but after almost 22 months without a game, a second-half cameo in a weekend trial felt like the most important 20 minutes of his career. On the comeback trail after a third knee reconstruction, Gameiro finally made his Roar debut in Brisbane’s 2-0 pre-season win over Sydney FC on Saturday. He hadn’t played since injuring his knee in his former club Melbourne City’s 5-1 win over Perth Glory on November 27, 2015.That injury led to his second ACL tear and subsequent reconstruction in the space of 12 months.Worse was to follow when he tore the ACL in his other knee at City’s Townsville training camp in September last year.“I did everything properly, I don’t take shortcuts with things, so trying to understand why this had happened again to me was hard,” Gameiro said.Corey Gameiro is back after 22 months away from football. Picture: George Salpigtidis“People don’t really understand the depth of how hard it is mentally and emotionally.”But Gameiro, still only 24, refused to give up. He had invested too much time in his career for it to come to a premature end.All he needed was someone to believe in him and that man was Roar coach John Aloisi, who in July offered Gameiro a one-year deal.“He was the one who put his hand out to me when I needed it. I really am so thankful and I won’t ever let him down because he didn’t let me down in my time of need,” the former Australian under-23 international striker said.“There’ll probably never really be a way to be able to truly repay him.”Gameiro was on an emotional rollercoaster after finding out last week that he would get some game time against Sydney.“I had to keep telling myself to relax and that I was only playing 20 minutes in a friendly and that it wasn’t a World Cup,” he said.“But I was extremely excited and really proud that I could be back out there.”Watching proudly on the sidelines at Sydney’s Macquarie University training ground were Gameiro’s Wollongong-based parents Jenny and Tony.“They were more scared and nervous than I was,” said Gameiro, who was grateful the ongoing support of his family, his partner Catey, fans, his teammates and the rest of the A-League fraternity.“That includes players that I don’t even know ringing me. It’s a real testament to the A-League’s culture.”

  8. Anyway, benefit of the doubt for this bloke. One thing I will note in that highlight reel, most of it was counter attacking moves. Wonder if that says anything. Seems to like to shoot early which is something different and welcome. I hope we do play differently to everyone else this season. One big factor of the Aleague being so stale is there are only two ways and one speed that every team plays in this league IMO, and its fkn boring.

  17. So I heard rumours on social media of letterboxes being broken into all week and people stealing voting slips. Well I get home tonight (living with the folks) and their locked letter box door is ripped off the hinges, no mail today. I guess its wasn't rumours. #itsanoforme

  19. It's not that your observation isn't true but I'd also keep in mind that it would have been the beginning of the rapid decline in the Mariners.

  27. Nope. Bruno, Fernando, Marcin, Bort and Jako. An injury replacement for Bruno could be a foreigner though. How would people feel about giving Milos Lujic a crack as Bruno's injury replacement if we were struggling to find a player of sufficient quality?

  33. Agree. From memory i think he was fairly highly rated at first, but then had a shocking season after Arnold left and was never really able to recapture his form after. It'd be a bit of a nothing signing, in a position we are reasonably well covered in, but if the club think he's worth giving a spot to then i wont argue. Its unlikely signing him would have any impact, unless he proves to go well and makes us better. A nothing to lose situation if you like.

  35. I don't think people are doing any research into Zac before throwing their opinion around. Make of this what you will but these are the facts. He moved from Gold Coast United to Central Coast in 2012, signed on by the most successful and best defensively minded manager in the league in Graham Arnold. Over the course of his aleague career he made over 80 appearances. On top of that he was a part of the 2013 title winning Mariners side, albeit being a bench player. In 2015 Graham Arnold saw enough quality in him to resign him again for Sydney FC. Then from all reports he left of his own accord for Malaysia. He has also represeneted the national team in both under 20s and under 23s. Add on top of that he is only in his mid 20s. From this information alone I think he would be an interesting signing and well worth the go, especially if he's on a low wage.

  36. Wouldn't worry too much, we destroy whatever fullback we sign anyway so the end product is always the same. RIP Jamieson in advance.

  37. If we were to sign Anderson I'd hazard a guess that he's only being signed as cover. More likely that La Rocca would start st CB with Bort right if thats the case.

  39. Really should just build a new stadium down in docklands by the water, how cool would that be. The Sheik can just roll up in his yacht and come and stand with the active boys. Nice and close to Southern Cross station for us Vline travellers aswell. Pretty sure it was floated for the Melbourne Demons that they were going to build a training facility down there. No idea where though.

  41. Was at a friend's house last week and I was complaining about how much tax aussies pay on ciggies and said "it's not the governments place to tell us what we can and can't do" At this point my friends ideolistic lefty gf states "I disagree." so I asked her where they got their authority from besides being at the end of a long line of arbitrarily accepted rulers since colonisation. Much to my surprise she agreed with me and conceded the point. Blows my mind that anyone thinks government intervention as anything other than a last resort is a good thing.
