  1. The game is a stand alone product IMO ... we don't need an affiliation when any other code. Growth will continue and within a few years, the top stand will be open to members ... how quickly depends on our continued success and the impending TV deal

  13. Wellington vs Melbourne City, Westpac Stadium, Saturday 8th of October @ 5:35pm AEST. Sportsbet Odds. Melbourne City: $2.20 Wellington Phoenix: $3.00 Anything worth a punt on? – Melbourne City to win both halves at $7 seems entirely reasonable. If you ignore the fact that we start the season terribly. And that we don’t play overly well away from home. And that we once drew with this team when they were missing not only 7 players, but also their coach (!). I’ve got a good feeling about this one. Last time they met: A clinical 3-0 for Melbourne City where we arguably could (should?) have scored more. The game will probably most remembered for my call for goal of the season from Harry Novillo where he finished off an audacious chipped pass from Bruno Fornaroli. Also saw the start of the regulation capitulation that we like to observe at the end of the season. Last season’s results: MCY 3:0 PHX (Novillo, Fornaroli x2) 28.03.2016 PHX 2:1 MCY (Mooy, in absentia: Defenders) 26.02.2016 MCY 3:1 PHX (Fornaroli, Novillo x2) 25.01.2016 Team News. Melbourne City: It’s difficult not to be excited about the start of the season. It might be the fact that City showed real promise in their last FFA Cup match against the Wanderers, it might be the fact that our off-season goes for 170 days, who knows. But City come into this one with a nearly full strength squad (minus Tim Cahill on international duty and Ivan Franjic whose been rumoured to have a November start date on his season, good news for all involved) and should look to beat Wellington comfortably. Nicholas Colazo will hopefully get a start to show his ability on the left flank as a marauding full back (looked energetic up and down against Auckland City on family day and took his goal well), while Osama Malik finally looked like the player he can be last time out, making forays into midfield to cut balls out, with the defence looking infinitely more solid with Jakobsen at the heart of defence. Connor Chapman as a right back isn’t an overly exciting thought, but he’s been serviceable enough in the absence of Franjic. The front third is loaded with an embarrassment of riches, with Fitzgerald relegated to the bench. The other bench spots are likely to be very defensive and made up of Retre, Muscat and Rose (though I’d like to see Daniel Arzani move onto the pine if Caceras moves into the starting 11 to replace Cahill). Possible Starting 11. Sorenson Chapman Malik Jakobsen Colazo Kilkenny Brattan Kamou Caceras Brandan Fornaroli. Wellington Phoenix: The Wellington Phoenix should be an exciting team (at least going forward) this year. But not when they’re decimated by international call ups like they will be on Saturday with Barbarouses, McGlinchey, Ridenton and Durante (and Louis Fenton a late call up to replace Ryan Thomas) all to miss and possibly Krishna too (but for the life of me I can’t determine if Fiji have a game or not in this international break). They’ll also struggle to replace Sigmunds graft in the backline, which will likely see a defence pairing of Dylan Fox and new import Marco Rossi who could have a torrid time against a Melbourne City front 3 who will be keen to get off on the right foot. Ernie Merrick does know how to put out a well drilled side though and Bonevacia and Finkler can be tricky when given space. Possible Starting 11: Moss Lowry Fox Rossi Doyle Parkhouse Bonevacia Rodriguez Lia Finkler Watson Prediction: Melbourne City 3-1 Wellington. Melbourne City should have far too much quality for an undermanned Wellington, we’ll conceded in the 70th-80th minute when the game is done for good measure. Played for both clubs: Dylan Macallister. An entirely good question of why Dylan Macallister can be asked here. Because of his goal against Victory in the opening round derby of 12-13 season. Still our only winning start to a season in our history. Also managed to get himself sent off within 11 minutes against Perth which is an achievement in itself. Hard to remember but was a very good player for an entertaining Wellington side a few years before. Currently kicking around in the NPL NSW for Rockdale City.

  15. Why Bruno Fornaroli rejected big money offers to stay with Melbourne City Matt Windley October 2, 2016 THE greatest fear of Melbourne City fans this off-season was that goal scoring sensation Bruno Fornaroli would leave the club. But the man himself insisted he never entertained any thought of leaving, despite being the subject of big money offers elsewhere. Fornaroli’s debut A-League campaign was stunning, with the Uruguayan’s 25 goals helping catapult City to its best-ever season. The 29-year-old still had a year to run on a modest contract inside the $2.6m salary cap, but City chiefs quickly offered their rising star a three-year deal to become one of the club’s marquee players. With Fornaroli back in Uruguay post-season, the multi-million dollar contract remained on the table for some time, but the dreams of City fans were realised when the man who has since become their captain re-signed in August. “I had in my mind to stay,” Fornaroli said. “When I went away on my holiday, I had not re-signed the contract but I had talked a lot with the club and I knew that when some things would be fixed with my contract I would re-sign. “I am very happy here, the club has helped me so much and my family as well. “I know I sign for three years, but I want to stay a long time. I want to be here because I feel at home and this is great for me. “My wife loves it here, my little girl start to learn English — I need to learn too. “This country opened the door for me and my family and I want to say thank you for this.” Europe potentially beckoned for the striker, Uruguayan clubs inquired, while the cashed-up Chinese Super League also loomed. But Fornaroli said none of those options boasted Melbourne’s money-can’t-buy opportunities, with No.1 on his list the potential to win City’s first title. “When you finish the league and you score like last season, it’s normal that the offers come in,” he said. “But not everything is about money. Money can’t buy everything in your life. “I feel great inside this changeroom. This is the money can’t buy (experience). “There were big offers, but sometimes you need to think about what is important. I am happy I take this decision.” http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/football/why-bruno-fornaroli-rejected-big-money-offers-to-stay-with-melbourne-city/news-story/bc30a1b2817c4d69098b5d1549c6af50

  16. In. Despite this being the 6th season (counting the 13/14 half season) I have followed a JVS coached team, and despite relocating to Shanghai, China for work--which has kept me busy lately and will keep me rather busy throughout the season--I have bought a membership, and will somehow follow Melbourne City through every game this season. Especially because I believe in this bunch of players (despite the coach), lead by El Tuna, I look forward to the 2016-17 season!

  27. A-League captain’s poll shows Melbourne City forward Bruno Fornaroli the most feared player in competition Tom Smithies October 4, 2016 TIM Cahill has taken the headlines, but striker Bruno Fornaroli remains the player most teams fear in the A-League. According to an exclusive poll of the team captains taken on the eve of the season, most expect Fornaroli to challenge for the Golden Boot he won last season — and more nominated him than any other player as the most difficult opponent in the competition. Accentuating the level of expectation on Melbourne City and coach John van ’t Schip after their signing of Cahill to join Fornaroli in attack, half of the captains said they expected City to make the grand final next May. Elevated to marquee and captain, Fornaroli has already combined once with Cahill to impressive effect, after Melbourne City sent Western Sydney tumbling out of the FFA Cup last month. Though City will be shorn of the supply lines of Aaron Mooy this campaign, Fornaroli will be under pressure to repeat his scoring exploits from last season — with 28 goals in total last season. The 10 A-League captains were asked the same six questions, to detail their view of their opponents just days before the competition kicks off on Friday night. Asked to nominate a candidate for the Golden Boot excluding their own teammates, only three didn’t choose Fornaroli — opting instead for Roy Krishna, Andy Keogh and Jamie Maclaren. A clear majority of the captains wanted the league to reconsider the question of hot weather surrounding afternoon kick offs, particularly in Perth and Brisbane. A-League bosses use the internationally recognised Wet Bulb Globe Temperature which takes into account air temperature, humidity, wind and radiation to determine if temperatures are safe to play in. But beyond player welfare, some captains said the effect on the quality of games should be considered in scheduling games. “It’s more from a spectacle point of view — it slows the game down and it’s horrible to play in. It’s not good for anyone,” was one typical response, though another captain noted that “it’s football — sometimes you play in all sorts of weather.” Another noted that “I’ve played in some dangerous conditions — it needs addressing”, but it was also pointed out that high temperatures will always be a part of the competition given its summer scheduling. Asked to nominate the best ground to play at, four chose AAMI Park — illustrating the importance of rectangular grounds to the games’ atmosphere. Three also chose Pirtek Stadium, suggesting Western Sydney may have lost a competitive advantage in switching to Spotless Stadium while Pirtek is rebuilt. Among other answers, Sydney FC was the side most nominated to reach the grand final behind City, with two, while Matt MacKay of Brisbane was the player rated the most difficult opponent behind Fornaroli. Asked to nominate a player from the A-League to be called up for the Socceroos, two each selected Rhys Williams and James Holland, both of whom won caps in the past and illustrating the quality of players returning for this season. A-League captain’s poll: 7/10 say Bruno Fornaroli will win the Golden Boot 3/10 nominated Fornaroli has the most difficult opponent, more than any other 5/10 said Melbourne City will get to the grand final 7/10 said the A-League needs to reconsider games played in blazing heat 5/10 said AAMI Park was the best stadium for football in the A-League http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/football/a-league/aleague-captains-poll-shows-melbourne-city-forward-bruno-fornaroli-the-most-feared-player-in-competition/news-story/c85f111fa964356bb95a50ba405a7ba0

  30. The original purchase by Manchester City involved 20% ownership by Storm interests so that FFA were kept in the dark as to the real change in ownership. When they were ready, those Storm interests were only to happy to sell their stake to City. So I can't see that Storm would have any real interest in us. However, the Rebels might be a different story in terms of a joint membership package or discounted tickets etc. I'd probably go to a couple of Rebels matches in that sort of system, if for nothing else that our off-season is just too long. But I wouldn't want a bar of any arrangement with AFL interests.

  39. I actually think theres something to that, homo's on average have higher IQ's... They spend less money, fuck more and get smarter... They will slowly die out though, along with the west in general. Homo's have left their post 1950's closet and aren't breeding, women think dogs are kids, they want to sit on the couch with their dog children and watch "Mob Wives" all day and not cook dinner or give decent blow jobs. Chivalry is dead, romance is aids, sex is ruined and divorce is just something everyone does.
