  2. Fuck me dead. I have had this same conversation every year for the past seven years now. No matter the players, jvs teams always show the same fundamental flaws. Making excuses for a coach that makes the same errors again and again seems more counterproductive to me.

  3. I reckon what happened was that we arranged this friendly with the intention to give first teamers a run, but the FFA Cup draw changed all of that and with everything all book we had to follow through with it. Fair to say Muscat, Caceres and Retre will all be on the bench come wednesday...which would suggest Brandan will be starting.

  4. I went to the game today, disappointing crowd but an expected one given that City had come out and said through the week pretty much no senior players would feature. Caceres, Muscat, Bouzanis and Retre were pretty much the only players with senior experience to play whilst Arzani and Tongyik also played from the actual 1st list. Newcastle went in at pretty much full strength, Jack duncan started in front of Ben Kennedy in goals but other than that it was full steam ahead. City started the stronger and for the majority of the first 35 minutes City controlled possesion into the breeze, although they also created precious few forward thrusts. Bouzanis produced a good save on about 35' and then Newcastle had the better of the next 10 although I'd hardly say they had a wealth of chances. Newy went in with two goals from three chances at the break and certainly the second goal at least started from a city gift out of defence. Without a doubt Caceres and number 8 (Arzani?) stood out in the first half. Second half with the breeze we looked much more likely to score and Crowley put one into the side netting and then just came up short in the first 10 minutes. As the half wore on and Retre, Arzani and Caceres were subbed out we dropped off although we still were able to limit the chances conceded. Even to full time I'd still argue that City had more possession and Newcastle were instructed to play on the counter. All four of their goals were pretty much identical; the striker getting played in from a City turnover then laying a square ball across for an easy tap in goal for whoever happened to be in the right place at the right time. Given the line up it was an expected, perhaps slightly worse result, but a better performance than I'd have thought. Our insistence to play out from the back yet have a refusal to play a through ball in the attacking third was clear as mud and probably typical of any JVS side. We were slow and predictable yet confident on the ball, which made it all the more frustrating. Still as the line up consisted of blokes that, aside from Caceres and Muscat, wont feature in the season proper the result is not highly relevant whatsoever.

  8. Whenever you doubt yourself, remember JVS has managed to be one of the highest paid managers in the A-League for 5 years, as well as having managed in the best league outside of Europe and South America, and even managed in the Eredivisie, all while not even showing the slightest glimpse of competence or ability. Anything really is possible.

  9. Sorry, but to do that you should play an NPL side. All we've done today is give Newcastle an opportunity to have some target practice ready for the season proper. Our pre-season should be about us, not about providing easy practice for other A-League teams and players such as Nordstrand and Krishna. We have an important match on Wednesday, and as far as that match is concerned today has been of no use whatsoever.

  11. Its going to be funny as fuck watching city group piss away another season, undoing all the goodwill of singing Cahill etc. for the sake of keeping JVS Whilst Victory get even further ahead

  12. wonder how much the City Group head honchos are seeing what Pep is doing in Manchester, and if it will give them further confidence to cut JVS at the knees earlier than later this season. I know Pep is on another level, but it just shows that you dont necessarily have to throw the baby out with the bath water in relation to players, often it is the gaffer (like Pellegrini) who can take an exceptional squad and turn into rubbish. 3 months ago city fans were questioning why they spent 50 mil on Sterling, he now looks like he is worth twice that of Pogba. JVS has never proven he is even a decent coach, let alone good. Again, as I have stressed the fact that we have had 2 coaches in our history of zero success, shows Munn has to go as well. Surely the City Group can see this.

  17. Well nix only won against CCM 1-0 yesterday and from what I could tell it was a scrappy lucky goal. Plus with the Nix game. We were there for a week doing hard double sessions in the heat leading up to the game, and according to reports, the FNQ twitter account said that the team looked sluggish probably because of all the work during the week. Oh wait, hang on I better stop I am making excuses.

  18. I find it pretty funny that people are freaking out about our npl team, who basically turned up, started their warm up and then played a game lost to a full strength a league team (who arrived the day before) 4-0

  20. Ok some positives for me was a lot of young guys got to any against aleague opposition. Another positive was in the second half when we played a complete youth line up we conceded 2 goals, same as the first. We also created some of our best opportunities in the second half and should have easily had two goals. Negatives were regardless of who we put on the pitch, senior or youth, the same frailties occur when we concede. When we lose the ball we don't close down the opposition player quick enough, resulting in a quick release usually to our exposed wings and ending in a goal.

  22. My guess for Wednesday is : Sorensen Rose Chapman Jakobsen Brandan Kilkenny Brattan Malik Kamau Cahill Fornaroli Subs Bouzanis Fitz Caceres Retre Muscat Or Sorensen Chapman Malik Jakobsen Rose Brattan Kilkenny Cahill Kamau Fornaroli Fitzgerald Subs Bouzanis Caceres Retre Brandan Muscat Potentially Jakobsen doesnt play or comes off the bench but i think they'll throw him in

  23. So with Caceres playing today, does that mean Brandan will play a CAM type role on Wednesday? Hope so...

  24. It was not player critical error. bt50 said we were left vulnerable and unorganized numerous times in the midfield every time we lost possession. That is a tactical problem. Like is said ealier regardless of the squad or how important the game is, condensing 8 goals in 2 games is very worrying. Particularly when you look at how clueless we have been at the back in the ffa cup games too. Anyway man. I cant have this "its just preseason" conversation again. I am so tired of it.

  25. On the bright side, when they sack this clown and we dominate this league harder than Bayern dominate the Bundesliga we'll be so vindicated.

  26. No. But a system that consistently results in defensive weakness when ever we lose possession is bad tactics.

  27. Well we got to expose some youth players to A-League opposition, even though it is a friendly that still provides some insight into wether they are worth giving an opportunity to during the season proper.

  28. Yeah not literally nothing, more like absolutely nothing. The game today was just to give most of our second tier player a run. Nothing more and nothing less.
