  3. The thread title triggered something Shakespeareian in my brain. i can it see it now, Aloisi (Macbeth) peering from the corporate boxes (parapets) watching tuna-Mooy-Novillo warm up with some beautiful 1 touch football "arrgh Anti-Football (Birnam Wood) hath come to Suncorp (Dunsinane)" Fornaroli will play the role of Macduff, putting the tyrant's forces to the sword and thus starting the end of the Aloisi's (Macbeth's) brief reign as coach (King) in Brisbane (Scotland). notes: 1.Apologises to William Shakespeare. 2. Ok I admit it, strange stuff comes out of my head sometimes.

Anyway to the young ones I'd just say - enjoy - will help you prepare you for the tough times in life. Chin up all and sundry. Enjoy Christmas and remember: MELBOURNE IS RED AND WHITE.

  10. How on earth we lost to Newcastle is beyond me. Haven't won in their last eight matches and haven't scored in their last four. That was three points thrown away.

  12. It will probably come as no surprise to you to hear that in 1997, MCFC were not exactly financially stable. They were in the third year of former City legend Francis Lee's disastrous four-year spell as chairman of the club and were tanking in every way possible - this was the year in which they were relegated to the third tier of English football, after all. In light of this, Franny decided to make the absolutely fantastic decision to mortgage off a large part of the club's pride and identity by selling the copyright to the club badge, which was at the time a circular design not too dissimilar to the one just above, but far less clipart-y. I'm going from memory here, but I believe the figure he sold it for was a measly £1.5m. We were that desperate. Realising he had made a mistake, or possibly in a deliberate and cynical follow-up to his action in order to restore the initiative, not long afterwards the club then announced it was going to bring out a new badge, which they would of course suddenly have copyright ownership of again, thus allowing them to merchandise once more. However, it had to be significantly different in order to prevent any possible legal challenge from the guy who had just bought the copyright of the old design, and therefore thought he was sitting pretty on the right to control all merchandise himself. The new badge had a couple of throw-backs in the form of the shield in the centre, but it introduced several new elements, being A: the eagle/phoenix/buzzard (no-one is certain which it's supposed to be), B: the motto, which actually the fans have quite taken to, and C: the three fecking stars. These were - and the club openly admits - purely put in to mimic European clubs. What they didn't consider was that European clubs use them to signify trophies won, and at that stage there was no trophy we had won exactly three times. Since then, the stars have become a massive sore point to the fans as they represent a huge source of embarrassment - other fans have an easy avenue to mock us over them, particularly up until a few years ago in combination with the stupid "you've not won anything, you have no history" taunt. Additionally, few fans took to the design (although it's worth adding that those who were still young when it was brought in, such as myself, are noticably less negative towards it, and the johnny-come-latelies following the 2008 takeover which led to the creation of CFG have only ever known it and generally really like it) and there's a huge wave of nostalgia/animosity over the enforced loss of the previous badge which means that the over-30s demographic has been campaigning pretty much since the change of badge in 1997 for the new design to be gotten rid of and replaced with the old one. It just so happens that now, for reasons that probably relate to the design of the other CFG badges offering a chance to create brand association, CFG have finally out of nowhere decided to take up the course and design a new badge that harks back to the old design.

  13. Yeah the colours would have suited us better actually since our home shirt mostly white with some sky blue.

  14. Lol Melbourne and NY will have more sky blue on their badges than Manchester.

  18. In fairness to him (and I obviously have some bias to and hence faith in Koren), I believe he was integrating much better earlier this season/pre-season with the higher quality footballers around him, up until his injury which undoubtedly set him back. There have been some concerns already about his failure to run back on Saturday night, but I don't believe this is correct. There were several times, he was able to take possession of the ball and push forward after starting in a default deeper position (obvious instructions defending a 2-1 lead against a marauding opponent), but also to track back and help out when under siege. I recall one instance late in the game where I believe it was Mooy? who had the ball forward of centre. As he was controlling it, it was obvious he was going to cough it up as the Victory players were closing him down and he was buggered. Koren recognised this from out wide and ran behind him to take the ball off him moments before he lost it - and then took the ball with him out to the other wing, hence keeping possession in a far less threatening position. If not, we would have turned it over leaving us really vulnerable with them pushing forward. Now sure, this may sound like a minor thing that every player should be doing, but given the state of the game at that point, it was an extremely important and valuable contribution. One that smacked of experience and class. Does it justify him as a marquee player? Probably not - I would label him a classy visa player. So in that respect, I can understand the popular view that he is a let down as marquee. But given where we are at the moment and with the quality we now have in midfield and up front, I am of the opinion the whole 'our marquee player must be a game changer' argument as a little overblown and frankly not that important right now. We have those players in Mooy, Novillo and Tuna. He instead offers someone who can join the dots between all these players, something he has shown he does better than most. So in summary for mine, is he marquee worthy? No. Does it really matter at this point? No. His value to the team will be shown when he becomes fully fit again, jointly pulling the strings with Mooy in that midfield. FWIW in terms of 'marquee', I believe where we need that labelled player most is someone who can control the game from a DM position, ala Isaias from previous seasons. Something Victory proved with the combo of Milligan and Valeri last year, franked by the shitness of Mahazi and unavailability of Valeri in their results this season . Fortunately at this point, we have Retre coming on in leaps and bounds and a thankfully improving Paartalu. Anyway, that's my take on it all. Carry on.....

  23. Seriously what's wrong with these bastards. We've had to put up with Maycon. We had to watch that offsidedly challenged spud Mifsud. We had to wait how long for Grella to get fit and then he only played 12 minutes and then retires. We bring in our best Marquee and he breaks his leg in his first match. We've had to endure that annoying match day announcer screaming complete nonsense week in week out. Aloisi. We've had to listen to endless comments on how we have lacked a true identify. They changed our colours. They removed Ticker and replaced him with a quartet of the worst mascots ever. But all those things I can deal with but for the love of god I will not stand by and be tormented anymore by this sausage stand fiasco. I and a small band of sympathizers will be launching a campaign to #bringbackthesausagestand Any interested in joining me we will be staging a vigil on the actual site of where the sausage stand stood beginning this Thursday at 10am and will not be leaving until the stand is reinstated to is past glory. Enough is enough!

  24. Especially for me. Mine was left outside so being creative with bites and mess. 6th bite in I see something black wriggle out of the crack in the carrot. Next thing I know I'm spraying tiny bits of carrot over the lawn and carrot gets thrown to the ground.
